Cortona is a small welcoming town in the Valdichiana, in the province of Arezzo. The city, enclosed by walls in which Etruscan and Roman features are still visible today, was built on a hill, which reaches about 600 meters in height. This elevated position allows you to admire the splendid landscapes of the Valdichiana, also seeing Lake Trasimeno and Montepulciano.

Montepulciano is also perched on the top of a hill, in the south of Tuscany and not far from Siena, and is a medieval town of rare beauty that certainly deserves to be visited! A unique village with elegant Renaissance palaces, ancient churches, splendid squares and small hidden corners. Furthermore, from Montepulciano you can enjoy a fabulous and boundless panorama of the Val d’Orcia and the Val di Chiana.

The disposition of the town creates a difference in altitude of over 60 meters and it is precisely this remarkable ascent that has given Montepulciano one of its most distinctive characteristics: the underground cellars.

Together with the popularity due to the landscapes of a thousand and one nights, with the perfect fertile soil for the production of excellent vines and wines such as Sangiovese grape, the primary grape for obtaining Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, this area is also perfect for combining the traditional Tuscan charm to the local character and traditional flavors of this place.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG has an intense ruby red colour, tending towards garnet with ageing. It has an intense and sometimes ethereal aroma, with characteristic fruity notes of black cherry, floral notes of violet) and spices. On the palate it is very structured, balanced and elegant, with rather marked tannins which contribute to the good longevity of the wine.

If in Montelpulciano the king is the Sangiovese from which Vino Nobile is obtained, in Cortona the dominator is the Syrah.

Thanks to the soils characterized by sandstones, marls and schists, with the presence of river-lacustrine deposits, clays and groundwater debris, about one million bottles are produced every year in the Cortona area.

    Cortona Syrah

A fresh, decisive, elegant and powerful taste: this is the result summarizing the main characteristics of the Syrah wines of Cortona. A grape variety that has found the ideal environment and climate on the hills surrounding Cortona. The legend that binds these grapes of presumably Middle Eastern (from the Persian city of Syrah) or Mediterranean (from Syracuse) or French (in more modern times) origins tells us about some vine shoots that were left after the French occupation under Napoleon.

The organoleptic characteristics of Cortona DOC Syrah include a ruby red, garnet red colour. The olfactory profile of the wine is characteristic, elegant and on the palate it is dry, harmonious.
